Junior Sailing 1 : Optimist Beginners OVERVIEW: The aim of the Junior Sailing 1: Optimist Beginners is to provide kids aged 8 to 14 with a strong foundation in dinghy sailing, focusing on the sailing techniques required to sail a triangular course. This course is suitable for sailors that have completed the Junior Introduction to Sailing or alternatively already have some basic sailing experience. Students will sail the club Optimists and have at least 6.5 hours on the water sailing. Many students find it useful to do this course a couple of times to develop and perfect these fundamental skills. COURSE FORMAT: The course will run on 4 consecutive Sunday mornings from 08.30 – 12.30. STARTING DATES: Sunday, Oct 18, 2009 Sunday, Nov 15, 2009 Sunday, Jan 31, 2010 Sunday, Feb 28, 2010 COST: $95.00 per student (family discount: $85 each for 2 or more siblings). Payment can be made by cheque, money order or cash (credit cards are not accepted). WHAT TO BRING: It is important to keep in mind that students need to come prepared for the course as it is an outdoor sport and students will be exposed to the outside elements. Bring suitable clothing (rash vests or wet suits are good), a hat, sunscreen, & water bottle. Students will get wet (especially on the first day drills) so bring a towel and change of clothes. INFORMATION FOR PARENTS : Please note this is NOT a Drop and Go course for parents. BYRA is a not for profit community based club that aims to make sailing as affordable as possible. To this end we rely heavily on the assistance of parent volunteers each week. Further details are provided on the enrolment form. ENROLMENT: Course enrolment forms are available from our website. Alternatively if you contact BYRA we can send one out to you. Once an enrolment form and payment is received we will send out an acceptance notification which will explain your requirements in detail.
