Junior Sailing 2 : Intermediate Optimist OVERVIEW: The Junior Sailing 2: Intermediate Optimist aims to provide sailors aged 8 to 14 with more advanced sailing skills. We cover techniques for enhancing boat speed, advanced sail trim, wind awareness, race tactics, basic racing rules and collision regulations. This course is suitable for junior sailors that have completed the Junior Sailing 1 : Optimist Beginners to the required level of competency or alternatively deemed by the head coach to have a solid understanding of sailing fundamentals. Students will sail the club Optimists and have at least 13.5 hours on the water. COURSE FORMAT: The course runs on 9 consecutive Sunday mornings from 08.30 – 12.30. STARTING DATES: Sunday, Oct 18, 2009 Sunday, Jan 31, 2010 COST: $160.00 per student (family discount: $140 each for 2 or more siblings). Payment can be made by cheque, money order or cash (credit cards are not accepted). WHAT TO BRING: It is important to keep in mind that students need to come prepared for the course as it is an outdoor sport and students will be exposed to the outside elements. Bring suitable clothing (rash vests or wet suits are good), a hat, sunscreen, & water bottle. Students will get wet (especially on the first day drills) so bring a towel and change of clothes. INFORMATION FOR PARENTS : Please note this is NOT a Drop and Go course for parents. BYRA is a not for profit community based club that aims to make sailing as affordable as possible. To this end we rely heavily on the assistance of parent volunteers each week. Further details are provided on the enrolment form. ENROLMENT: Course enrolment forms are available from our website.
