The BYRA Junior Sailing Volunteer Programme is our flagship junior sailing program, providing a supportive, fun and encouraging intermediate step between learn to sail and racing. Held on Sunday mornings during the sailing season, this is an excellent way for kids to spend lots of time on the water before jumping into the afternoon racing. Our juniors sail in the International Optimist training dinghy and specially designed  Pittwater Juniors (PJ), as well as Spirals and Flying Elevens. Young members are welcome to bring their own boats along, and this is a great way of getting some introductory coaching in a new class.

Join up now - don't miss out!!
Come and register at our orientation days on Sundays 14th and 21st September.
Then come and get a taste at our Open day on Sunday 12th October
The Junior Sailing Volunteer program starts on Sunday 19th October

Youth Development
In addition, we are also running Youth Development Coaching and Training, also on Sunday mornings for Manly Juniors and Flying Elevens. This season BYRA will host the Manly Junior National championships during December 2008!

Junior Racing
Junior Racing will take place on the Southern course, right off the clubhouse at BYRA on Sunday afternoons at 1.30 pm. This involvess joint racing, combined with RPAYC. We need a volunteer safety boat and scribe each week.

Open Racing
Open Racing takes place on the Northern course. Experienced young sailors are encouraged to race in Manly Juniors, Spirals and Flying Elevens against RPAYC and Avalon clubs in combined fleet races starting at 2.00pm.

Please note that there will be no Sunday morning Junior Sailing during the School Holidays

Junior sailing relies on parental support, including rigging, carrying, helping out on rescue boats, and, of course, the much needed coffee-and-cake time-out at morning tea.

The principal aim of the BYRA Junior sailing is to ensure that sailing is fun. To this end, we have water pistol fights, dress-up days, Kids v Parents day, and many other themed activities to get kids learning sailing skills while having a ball.

Have a look at our ARCHIVED BYRA Junior Sailing to get an idea of how much fun has been had.
