Dinghy Racing
BYRA centreboard dinghy sailors participate in Combined Fleet Racing organized and managed jointly by BYRA, Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club and Avalon Sailing Club. Racing for the Combined Fleet is held on Sunday afternoons between early September and the end of March with a break from just before Christmas till Australia Day.
Our juniors, sailing Optimist Dinghies, Pittwater Juniors (PJs), Manly Juniors and Laser 4.7s race on the Southern Course, which is set in proximity to the BYRA club house, south of Scotland Island.
Experienced and senior sailors racing Spirals, Lasers (Full and Radial rig), NS14s, as well as TS16s and other dinghy classes race on the Northern Course, which is set north of Scotland Island.
Most of the Combined Fleet racing is organised for multiple short course races. TS16s and NS14s, however, prefer a single long race and arrangements are sufficiently flexible to accommodate them.
Combined Fleet Racing has the potential for bigger fleets and stronger competition as well as sharing the load of physical and volunteer resources needed to run the racing. So far, Spirals and Lasers have made the most of interclub fleets with competitors from all three clubs.
