BYRA's Yacht Division
The BYRA Keelboat Division grew out of the former McCarr's Creek Yacht Racing Group which originated in 1991 and sailed out of Mitchell's marina. This group merged with BYRA in 2001. The BYRA Keelboat division now comprises yachts from the McCarrs Creek Group and all other BYRA members wishing to sail as skipper or crew with the keelboats.
We have a twilight sailing series which takes place on Tuesday nights during daylight saving. We start at approximately 6pm. The start line is at the Woody Point mark, and the race ends by 8pm. We normally follow the race with a raft-up for supper in Morning Bay (formerly called Towlers Bay) unless weather conditions preclude this (a rare event!).
Racing is held in a friendly, non-aggressive manner, although there is plenty of competitiveness. The accent is on fun and friendship.
At the end of the season, usually in April, we hold the annual "Two Island Classique" race from Woody Point around Scotland and Lion Islands. After the finish we meet at a previously-agreed venue for an overnight raft-up. We also join the Dalton Cup, BYRA's annual Lion Island race, which is run in the last weekend of November.
